A mummy makeover is a combination of procedures carried out together to address the changes that pregnancy and breastfeeding can bring to the breasts and abdomen. It is tailored to the individual, but commonly combines abdominoplasty with breast surgery — an uplift, augmentation, breast reduction, or augmentation mastopexy — and often liposuction to sculpt the shape even better for a ‘snatched’ appearance.
Dr Chris Davis performs mummy makeover surgery in London, with consultations at 84 Harley Street, planning the combination around your particular concerns so that both breasts and abdomen are improved in line with your specific requests.
The surgery is carried out under general anaesthetic and typically takes five hours, depending on which procedures are combined. Performing them together means one anaesthetic and one recovery period rather than several. However, if the breasts and abdomen individually require more extensive surgery, you may choose to stage this over two procedures.
A mummy makeover is commonly considered by women who have finished having children and want to address several areas at once — typically loose abdominal skin, muscle separation, and loss of breast volume or shape following pregnancy and breastfeeding.
It is best suited to those at a stable weight who have completed their family, as future pregnancy can undo the results. Combining procedures also means a longer, more demanding recovery than a single operation, so practical support at home matters.
At consultation Dr Davis will discuss which combination is appropriate for you, and whether staging the procedures might be a better option.
Most patients stay one night after surgery. Because more than one procedure is carried out together, recovery is more involved than for a single operation, and arranging help at home — particularly with young children — is strongly recommended.
Most patients return to desk-based work after around two weeks, avoiding lifting and strenuous activity for several weeks. Swelling settles gradually, with the final result apparent over several months.

Absolutely. Every mummy makeover is tailored to your body, goals and recovery needs.
The first 1–2 weeks bring most of the swelling, soreness and limited movement, and you'll need help at home. Light activities and possibly desk work return around 2–4 weeks. By 4–6 weeks most patients gradually resume their normal routine while avoiding intense exercise, and by 6–8+ weeks most activities including workouts can resume with approval.
When planned carefully and performed by an experienced surgeon, combining procedures is safe for suitable candidates. An overnight stay is required for the mummy makeover.
Scars are a normal part of a mummy makeover, but they're carefully placed to be as discreet as possible — often along the bikini line or natural creases. They usually start red and raised, then fade over 6–12 months. While they won't disappear completely, most become much less noticeable over time. Scar quality depends on your healing, aftercare and the surgeon's technique.
It's recommended to wait until you've finished breastfeeding and your weight has stabilised. The earliest would be around 6 months post childbirth.
Yes. Future pregnancies can affect results, so surgery is best once your family is complete.
Results are long-lasting, especially when combined with a healthy lifestyle and stable weight.
